Terms of Service

Rising Pawn · Last updated: October 28, 2026

On this page

These Terms are an agreement between you and Arsen Palamarchuk, an individual entrepreneur (FOP) registered in Ukraine ("we", "us"), about the Rising Pawn iOS app and the website at https://risingpawn.com (together, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your data and is part of these Terms.

1. Who can use the Service

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms for you. You must be able to form a binding contract where you live.

2. What the Service does

Rising Pawn takes the games you played on chess.com or Lichess, analyzes them with a chess engine, finds your mistakes and turns them into short daily training: puzzles in the app, on the Lock Screen (Live Activity) and on the Home Screen (widget), a profile of your play, and Focus, which can block apps you choose until you have trained.

Everything we show about your play, including move classifications, mistake patterns, your estimated rating and the "rating points thrown away", is an estimate produced by software. It can be wrong. We do not promise that your rating or your results will improve.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by chess.com, Lichess or Apple.

3. Your account

  • The app creates an anonymous account when you first open it. To keep your progress after you reinstall or switch phones, sign in with Apple, Google or email. If you lose a device with an anonymous account, that account and its data cannot be recovered.
  • You are responsible for what happens under your account. Keep your sign-in method secure and tell us at support@risingpawn.com if you think someone else is using it.
  • One person per account. Do not share accounts or sell them.
  • You may connect only chess accounts that belong to you. We fetch only games that chess.com and Lichess make public.
  • You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account → Delete account.

4. Pro subscription

Some features need a Pro subscription. Which features are free and which are Pro is shown in the app and may change.

  • Plans and prices are shown in the app before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account through the App Store.
  • Free trial. The yearly plan may start with a free trial. You are not charged until the trial ends. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription starts and you are charged for the first period.
  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period at the price shown unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple charges your account within 24 hours before the renewal.
  • Cancelling. Manage or cancel in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, or in the app's Subscription settings, which open the same page. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription. After cancelling you keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store terms. We cannot issue refunds ourselves.
  • Price changes. If we change the price of your plan, Apple will tell you in advance and, where required, ask you to agree before the new price applies.
  • Free week. We may offer one free week of Pro without a purchase. It is available once per person and once per device, it does not renew and it does not start a subscription.
  • Restore purchases in Settings if you reinstall the app or get a new phone with the same Apple ID.

5. Focus and Screen Time

Focus uses Apple's Screen Time to block the apps you choose until you reach your training goal. You decide which apps to block and when. The app offers one emergency unlock per day.

Focus is a self-control tool. Do not use it to block apps you may need in an emergency, such as phone, messaging or health apps. We are not responsible for anything you miss while apps you chose are blocked, and we cannot guarantee that blocking always works; Apple's Screen Time controls how the block is enforced.

6. Acceptable use

Do not:

  • use the Service in a way that breaks the law or the rules of chess.com, Lichess or Apple;
  • use it to cheat in live games (for example, by analyzing a game while it is being played);
  • connect chess accounts that are not yours, or use the Service to analyze other people's games without their permission;
  • scrape, copy or bulk-download our analysis, puzzles or explanations;
  • reverse engineer the app, bypass the paywall, tamper with purchases or interfere with the Service;
  • use bots, scripts or multiple accounts to abuse free tiers or offers;
  • upload anything harmful or try to access other users' data.

We can suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

7. Your content and our content

  • Your games are yours (and public on the platform you played them on). You give us permission to download, store, analyze and display them, and to build training from them, so we can provide the Service to you. This permission ends when you delete your games or your account, except for copies in backups for a limited time.
  • Our content: the app, its design, text, puzzles, explanations, analysis and mistake patterns belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. You get a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use them through the Service. You may share your own report and training results, for example as a screenshot; you may not resell or republish our content.
  • Open-source and third-party content. The app uses open-source software and data, including Lichess puzzle and evaluation data (CC0) and the RhosGFX chess pieces (CC0). Chess analysis is done by the Stockfish engine (GPL-3.0), which runs on our servers; the app does not contain it. Credits and licenses are listed in the app under Settings → Acknowledgements.
  • Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we can use them without owing you anything.

8. Third-party services

The Service depends on chess.com, Lichess, Apple and other providers we do not control. If they change or stop their APIs, your games may stop updating or features may stop working. Their terms apply to your accounts with them.

9. Changes to the Service

We can add, change or remove features, including which features are free. We will give you notice if we remove a feature you paid for in a way that materially reduces what you get, and Apple's refund rules apply.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or that the analysis will be accurate. Some places do not allow these disclaimers, so some of them may not apply to you.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US $100. Some places do not allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.

12. Indemnity

If someone brings a claim against us because of your use of the Service or your breach of these Terms, you will cover our reasonable costs, including legal fees.

13. Ending the agreement

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We can suspend or close your account if you break these Terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop offering the Service, with notice where reasonable. Sections 7, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 15 survive the end of this agreement.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ukraine, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Before going to court, contact us at support@risingpawn.com and we will try to resolve the issue informally within 30 days. Disputes that are not resolved go to the competent courts of Kyiv, Ukraine. If you live in the EU, the UK or another country whose consumer law gives you more protection, you keep that protection and may bring claims in your local courts.

15. Apple App Store terms

Because you got the app from the App Store:

  • These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
  • Your license is limited to using the app on Apple devices you own or control, as the App Store Terms of Service allow, including the Family Sharing rules.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for maintenance and support. Apple has no obligation to provide any support for the app.
  • If the app fails to meet a warranty, you may tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. Apple has no other warranty obligation; any other claim is our responsibility.
  • We, not Apple, handle any claims that the app does not comply with the law, product liability claims, and consumer protection claims.
  • If a third party claims the app infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, handle the claim.
  • You confirm that you are not in a country under a U.S. government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and that you are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. We will post the new version with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, tell you in the app before they take effect. Using the Service after that means you accept the new Terms.

17. Other terms

These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If a part of them is unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term, we can still enforce it later. You may not transfer this agreement; we may transfer it to a successor.
